What is a MT542 used for?

A MT542 message is used to:
*instruct the delivery of financial instruments free of payment, physically or by book-entry, to a specified party (the function of the message is NEWM)
*request the cancellation of a deliver free of payment instruction previously sent by the account owner (the function of the message is CANC)
*pre-advise the account servicer of a forthcoming deliver free of payment instruction (function of the message is PREA).
The instruction may be linked to other settlement instructions, eg, for a turnaround or back-to-back, or other transactions, eg, foreign exchange deal, using the linkages sequence.
An MT-542 is sent by an account owner to an account servicer (account servicing institution). The account owner may be a global custodian which has an account with its local agent (sub custodian) or an investment management institution or a broker/dealer which has an account with their custodian.

What is an SBLC?

A standby letter of credit is a type of bank Instrument that can be issued to trusts, pension funds, individuals, non profit organizations, corporations, endowments, or to any payable entity.

A SBLC substitutes the credit of the bank for that of the client, for the purpose of facilitating trade. It serves as a secondary payment mechanism. A bank will issue a standby letter of credit on behalf of a client to provide assurances of his ability to perform under the terms of a contract between the beneficiary. The parties involved with the transaction do not expect that the SBLC will ever be drawn upon. It assures the beneficiary of the performance of the customer’s obligation.

A standby letter of credit is often used to guarantee performance or to strengthen the credit worthiness of a client.

A client can often have a SBLC in their hands in 5 business days or less once they submit a brief intake form, a sample of which can be obtained from ProofOfFundsNow@gmail.com

The biggest drawback to obtaining a SBLC, proof of funds or BG, is that many clients and brokers think they are going to get one without any type of upfront payment upon execution. That will never happen. Some providers, though, will allow the client to make a 40% payment and then setup a payment schedule for the balance. We know of one provider who will do that.

What is a Letter of Credit ( LOC ) ?

A Letter Of Credit is a letter from a bank guaranteeing that a buyer's payment to a seller will be received on time and for the correct amount. In the event that the buyer is unable to make payment on the purchase, the bank will be required to cover the full or remaining amount of the purchase.

A letter of credit is often used in international transactions to ensure that payment will be received. Due to the nature of international dealings including factors such as distance, differing laws in each country and difficulty in knowing each party personally, the use of letters of credit has become a very important aspect of international trade. The bank also acts on behalf of the buyer (holder of letter of credit) by ensuring that the supplier will not be paid until the bank receives a confirmation that the goods have been shipped.
